Community governments in the Northwest Territories are struggling to survive an annual shortfall of almost $40 million. This is 37% less than what they need to provide the services we all depend on in our communities. Clean drinking water, sanitation services, recreation, roads and infrastructure are at risk when community governments lack the funding required for these services. This means that communities also lack the resiliency required to handle climate change and ensure that our hometowns are vibrant, resilient, safe, and attractive places to live.

Did you know that community government spending has a significant impact on the territorial economy, as well as on the day-to-day well-being of community residents? The Conference Board of Canada evaluated the economic impacts of community spending on the territorial economy, and found that the value added by spending at the community level was much higher than dollars invested at the territorial or federal level.
