Susan Coyne is the NWTAC's Sustainability Coordinator. She joined the Association in 2008 to work with communities as they developed ICSPs.

Four main components of an ICSP 

 

 NWTAC's online information portal for Integrated Community Sustainability Plans

Welcome to ICSP Central, an Online Information Portal for NWT Community Governments during the development of Integrated Community Sustainability Plans (ICSP).

 

As required by the Federal Gas Tax Agreement, these plans must be completed by March 31, 2010. ICSPCentral exists to provide information on ICSP development to NWT Community Governments.

 

An ICSP is a long-term plan that is developed in consultation with community members, which provides direction for the community to realize objectives it has for the sustainable development of cultural, social and economic dimensions of its identity.

 

In exchange for this new multi-year funding allocations, NWT Community Governments are required to develop and implement ICSPs which consist of at least the following four components:

 

What is a sustainable community?

Using the definition used to create the New Deal for NWT Community Governments, a sustainable community is one that:

 

Funding available to each community through the Gas Tax supports the development of public transit systems, and water and wastewater systems, solid waste management, community energy systems, and community capacity building.
